Last Child in the Woods

booksLast Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder is a book that will change the way you think about the relationship between education and nature. In it, Richard Louv talks about how direct exposure to the natural environment is necessary for healthy development in children and for the physical and emotional health of both children and adults.

Our Philosophy

At In a Child’s Path, we fully embrace the philosophy that healthy kids learn outside. At our farm preschool, children interact with animals, play in the fields, plant gardens, and taste the food they grow.

In our forest school, children really embrace the outdoors by tromping through the woods and interacting with the naturally occurring flora and fauna. We build forest out of the sticks we find on the ground. We catch frogs in our pond and watch the development of frog eggs in the streams. We jump in the rain puddles and thoroughly enjoy every inch of our forested campus.

Summer Camp 2012, August Update

We have been having a wonderful time at camp so far this summer. So much fun, in fact, that we have added a week of summer camp August 20-24th. We would love to have you join us!

Here’s just some of the awesome things we’ve done so far this summer at camp:

  • Blazing our own trails to the lower pasture
  • Riding our zip line
  • Making strawberry freezer jam and strawberry milkshakes
  • Taking care of our farm animals, including giving our mini horse Indy a bath
  • Sharing and developing group play skills
  • Adventuring in the forest
  • Finding frogs
  • Sailing boats
  • Building friendships
  • Playing in the sandbox and on the water wall
  • Harvesting our crops that we planted in the Spring

We’ve done all of those great activities in just three weeks of camp so far. We’d love to have your little ones join us this summer and experience the best farm camp around. Just contact us for availability.

Natural Play in School

This is an excellent video about natural play in school in Europe. It speaks well to the philosophy we embrace at In a Child’s Path.

Summer Camp 2012

Are you interested in a stimulating, educational opportunity for your child this summer? You should check out our In a Child’s Path summer camps!

A Day at Camp

Campers start each day by helping with morning chores, such as collecting eggs, cleaning stalls and feeding. By keeping the numbers small we are able to give each child the opportunity to learn how to handle different types of animals. Children learn how to interact and relate to the animals, developing trust and their own self confidence. After the farm work the children will spend up to 4 hours focusing on whatever minor focus they would like from eggs, chicks and chickens to making strawberry jam. We will have gardening incorporated into each week. Each child will be given their own journal when they arrive their first day at camp along with their own equipment for the week’s activities. The last hour of camp will be spent wrapping up the day in review and journaling our experiences. Afterward we will enjoy lunch together.

Your child will love In A Child’s Path Summer Camps. Contact us now for more information.
